While marijuana is legal in Massachusetts for both medicinal and recreational use, a limited number of dispensaries combined with high prices mean that the illicit market is still alive and well.
Last Thursday, 75-year-old Irvin Ulshen was charged with drug trafficking after law enforcement pulled him over on Route 138 in Canton, Massachusetts and found 150 pounds of illegal marijuana in the back of his box truck.
While Ulshen allegedly told law enforcement that he thought he was picking up a woodworking tool, the package was actually comprised of four waterproof cases, containing 103 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana worth an estimated $400,000 on the black market.
Ulshen is due back in court on Tuesday, January 22nd for a probable cause hearing. In the meantime, be sure to subscribe to cannabis news updates here so you never miss an important update.
