As the cannabis industry grows larger and larger, we’re seeing more and more titans from various industries getting involved. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen leaders from Trader Joes, VOSS, and Bausch & Lomb enter the industry.
One more interesting executive development was the appointment of US Food and Drug Administration Science Advisor Dr. Xiang-Qun Xie to the Applied BioSciences Corp. (OTC:APPB) Scientific Advisory Board.
In addition to his role working with the FDA, Dr. Xie is an Associate Dean for Research Innovation at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh and more. The fact that he’ll be taking a more active role in the cannabis industry is definitely a noteworthy development for the industry.
“I have been impressed with the Applied BioSciences team and their experience in the cannabis and CBD space and use of analytical science and best practices of testing in the manufacturing of products. I look forward to bringing my own background in research and development of compounds, patents to help further commercialize products that help to treat and provide the natural healing and properties of both cannabis and CBD,” – Dr. Xie.
With the recent passage of the Farm Bill, the federal government has provided a framework through which CBD companies can legally and reliably take their piece of an industry that is already worth tens of billions of dollars. Navigating that complex framework will require tremendous amounts of expertise.
