On July 19th, 2018, Tilray, Inc. (NASDAQ:TLRY), with an IPO price of just $17 per share, IPOed on the NASDAQ, making it the first company of its kind to do so.
Since then, the company’s value has risen to astronomic proportions as it is now halted at $217.75 per share roughly 44 trading days later. Based on this share price, the company’s market capitalization is estimated to be a whopping $20.28 billion USD.
With a valuation over $20 billion, Tilray is officially more than double the size of some of the most widely known businesses in the world. This list leaves out hundreds of other major public companies that are now minuscule in comparison to Tilray.
As you go through this list though, you’ll see names like Marriott, Xerox, and Harley Davidson. When it comes to comparing Tilray to companies like Marriott, I have to look at the facts and say holy sh*t, Tilray is working on building out facilities to cover 1 million square feet while Marriott has over 485,000 square feet of meeting space at just one of its Colorado resorts.
Even when I consider the considerably smaller 200,000 square feet of meeting space at Marriott’s Atlantis Resort, I just imagine how much better the rest of that little island would be if it were converted to cultivation space.
All sarcasm aside, whether or not Tilray’s current valuation is warranted is up to you to decide.
If you want to skip straight to the data, the full table of the 50 companies and their market capitalizations can be found at the bottom. Without further ado, here’s a list of 50 household companies that are valued lower than Tilray, Inc. in no particular order.
