Splitting headaches, fatigue, and an intense craving for overly-expensive Chinese delivery are all tell-tale signs that you were out drinking the night before. What are the signs, if there even are any, that you smoked weed the night before?
The hard truth about weed is that, just like with alcohol, you can get a hangover. And, just like alcohol, they occur when you’ve had too much. You might have even experienced a weed hangover yourself and just not noticed it. Here are some of the signs that you might have taken just one hit too many last night.
We all know that weed causes cotton mouth so it only makes sense that smoking too much pot will cause dehydration. Dehydration, obviously, causes headaches. Or maybe your brain hurts because you overexerted it last night during your high adventures. Either way, there’s an easy solution: drink lots of water. Drink before, during, and after your marijuana use to prevent waking up feeling like your mind traveled to the fifth dimension and back.
2. Red Eyes
Red eyes are a common and noticeable sign that you just smoked weed but those fire eyes can last through the morning. After inhaling, the cannabinoids in marijuana slow your tear and saliva glands, causing your eyes to dry up and turn red. The solution? Easy: just drink lots of water! Get some good hydrating eyedrops too so you don’t look like you just swam five miles without goggles in a chlorine swimming pool.
Nothing spells weed hangover like waking up fatigued. Though some use marijuana to treat insomnia and other sleep disorders, some studies have shown that weed can actually hinder your sleep performance. Part of the reason why you feel so tired when you wake up in the morning after a long night of smoking is that marijuana affects your REM sleep, sometimes cutting it off short. If you know you’re sleep is easily affected by smoking weed, try not to smoke to close to going to bed and give yourself a good 8 hours of sleep to make sure your body fully recovers.
4. Brain Fog
Marijuana hangovers are known to create brain fogginess or sluggishness in users that smoked too much the night before. This is the result of a few factors, including weed’s impact on memory and cognitive function. Studies have shown that marijuana adversely affects short-term memory in long-term users. Sometimes, it might take second for you to remember where you are when you wake up. Hot coffee and sweaty exercise are full-proof ways of clearing up the fog, though.
Still Worth It
Even though weed does cause hangovers of some sort, they’re easy to get through. With just a little bit of water, some coffee, and maybe some exercise you’ll be feeling back to normal in no time. Now, all I have to do is get the energy to go to the gym.
