The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, a.k.a. “RICO” for short, is a United States federal law that was created and passed to fight against organized crime and gangs. It allows for swift prosecution and harsh civil penalties for racketeering activities performed as part of an ongoing criminal enterprise. Racketeering activities may include illegal gambling, bribery, kidnapping, murder, money laundering, counterfeiting, embezzlement, drug trafficking, slavery, and more.
