Recently, it became legal for doctors in the UK to prescribe medical marijuana, albeit for just a limited number of ailments.
Carly Barton, who suffered a stroke in her 20s, is the first person to receive a prescription for cannabis in the UK. According to Sky News, “Carly suffers constant pain after a stroke in her 20s. She was prescribed the cannabis medicine by the only kind of doctor who can do so – a specialist consultant – but it does come at a hefty cost.”
Once general practitioners become more comfortable with the idea of prescribing cannabis to patients, the costs will drop significantly. After all, most of Carly’s cannabis-related costs are attributable to the specialist that wrote the prescription.
Carly Barton’s cannabis prescription in just one example of why so many advocates are fighting for cannabis legalization worldwide. In the meantime, be sure to subscribe to Marijuana News Updates here so you never miss an important update.
